Aandacht voor zingeving in de patiëntenzorg

Een kwalitatief onderzoek naar belemmerende en bevorderende factoren die verpleegkundige aandachtsvelders ervaren in het algemeen ziekenhuis

DOEL: Aandacht voor zingeving is een belangrijke taak van de verpleegkundige, maar blijkt niet altijd een geïntegreerd onderdeel van het professionele gedrag van verpleegkundigen. Uit eerder onderzoek blijkt dat het aanstellen van verpleegkundige aandachtsvelders zingeving (vaz) er op de korte termijn toe kan leiden dat de aandacht voor zingeving door verpleegkundigen verbetert. Het doel van dit onderzoek was om, een jaar na implementatie, de belemmerende en bevorderende factoren die ziekenhuisverpleegkundigen ervaren in de rol van vaz te onderzoeken.
METHODE: Er werd een generieke beschrijvende kwalitatieve benadering gebruikt. Thematische analyse werd gebruikt voor de data-analyse.
RESULTAAT: Acht vaz’s werden geïnterviewd. Vier factoren werden geïdentificeerd: professioneel zelfvertrouwen, tijd, ondersteuning en coaching, en teamfunctioneren.
DISCUSSIE: Dit onderzoek vult, ondanks de kleine steekproef, eerder onderzoek naar vaz’s aan met inzicht in de belemmerende en bevorderende factoren bij de invulling van de rol van vaz. Ook geeft het concrete suggesties om het professioneel zelfvertrouwen van vaz’s te vergroten.
CONCLUSIE: In deze studie was het gebrek aan professioneel zelfvertrouwen de grootste belemmerende factor, terwijl ondersteuning en coaching de meest bevorderende factor was.
Aanbevolen wordt om het professioneel zelfvertrouwen van vaz’s te versterken door middel van het uitbreiden van de intercollegiale bijeenkomsten met educatieve sessies.
